12 Step Program to Trading Bliss
To be successful in fantasy football, an owner has to be able to adapt & adjust their roster due to the constant changing of circumstances resulting from bye weeks, injuries and overall bad performances. Making a trade most certainly is one of the most exciting & sometimes necessary ways to accomplish this! After being deluged by offers year after year, I wonder…where is the etiquette? 3 worthless players for a stud WR? Sorry Charlie, that just ain’t gonna cut it. Now there may very well be a potential ‘meeting of the minds’ between myself and one of these owners but frankly, I’m already hesitant to attempt to make a fair deal with any single one of these offenders! In the game of inches and when time is crucial this can be very dangerous. Either I’m not making a deal, or I’ll settle for the WRONG deal. Someone needs to set the ground rules so precious time isn’t wasted lolly-gaggin back and forth on BOTH ends of a potential trade while the season passes us by. For all of us “Fantasy-A-Holics” I present the 12 Step Program to trading bliss:

12 Step Program to Trading Blisslast year made a trade that helped both teams out. I traded Peyton Manning for Drew Brees and Reggie Bush. Worked out great for me because McAllister went down the next week and Bush ended up getting the majority of the touches. |

12 Step Program to Trading BlissWe all know the guy who loves to try to sucker you into an outrageous deal (offering crap for gold, so to speak). Last year, I just missed on Braylon Edwards in the Draft, and got Adrian Peterson as my #3 RB. So I followed Butta's steps--without knowing it-- and worked a trade of AP for BE. Right when AP went on his tear, and about the same time that Braylon got hot. Now, AP finished with better numbers than either of the RBs I held on to, but Braylon launched me into the playoffs. The art of the deal is indeed sweet, when you find a sane person to trade with. |

12 Step Program to Trading BlissEvery trade doesn't have to be exactly even to benefit both players.
Last year I thought I was set at RB with LJ and Ronnie Brown but I had a big hole at TE and Marion Barber sitting on my bench. So I traded M. Barber for Kellen Winslow, even though a great TE doesn't generate the points of a good RB. Of course, Ronnie Brown went out soon after and LJ later, but the trade made sense at the time, considering it did not make the recipient of M. Barber super strong. And I had Kevin Jones and later picked up Ryan Grant, so I ran off 6 wins in a row with Winslow at TE. |

12 Step Program to Trading BlissGood Stuff, I like the 12 steps. I try to make even trades so both teams are happy but most of the goons in my league offer trades that are so totaly unfair.

12 Step Program to Trading BlissYou know the guy that kills me is the one who puts players on the block just to lure you in for a stupid offer. He'll put up Portis (for example) and say he needs a QB. You give him a good and (what you think is) fair offer because you wouldn't mind teaming up Portis with McGahee (again for example) . Of course he quickly rejects and counters with his back-up TE in exchange for McGahee. What is that crap about!?! |

12 Step Program to Trading BlissEven in the free leagues; trades suck. Nobody puts up the option for an even trade in my experience. Asking me to bend over while giving it to me is not my idea of a good trade. I usually draft really well (luck actually, I usually am at work during the drafts and have the computer automate get me my teams) and by the mid way point of the season I am still undefeated and other teams start doing uneven trades to catch me. That might sound egotistical but one team always gives up a star for a bench player and I get screwed in the playoffs.

12 Step Program to Trading BlissI hardly never trade in FF. I like to stick to the team I drafted. The CBS commissioner league I'm in on is a $200 entry fee, and If I trade, it has to be even and approved by the commish. Too much money on the line to mess up everybody in the league.

12 Step Program to Trading BlissWhen I am in fantasy leagues - I have always felt that people offering me trades have been ridiculous. I mean, giving up Peyton Manning for Ricky Williams is not and never will be a fair trade. I don't think even Mike Ditka would make that trade and we all know how "high" on Ricky he was coming out of college. The Saints are just now getting out of that hole.
